Through thousands of years of Native Americans calling this area home, into Civil War history, and now into the new millennium. Osceola is a "Bridge to the Past" for those interested in the many aspects of history to be discovered here.

There are many local sources of information about Osceola's history. Osceola is home to the St. Clair County Historical Society & Museum and the Johnson Family Library & Museum, often called the "Smithsonian of Osceola". The St. Clair County Library also serves as a storehouse for historical texts, maps, genealogy records, and newspapers on microfilm (late 19th century to present).

Such storied characters as Jesse James and the Younger brothers are said to have roamed Osceola and spent the night at the Old Commercial Hotel.
